CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We want to get reaction from the White House on that and other matters, as we check on the president's day.
CNN White House correspondent Chris Burns at his post with that.

Good morning -- Chris.

CHRIS BURNS, CNN WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Carol.

Of course, the big tax battle, the president pushing his tax cut. The Congress comes back from its Easter recess this week. That will be a major battle the president will be battling.

But today, he is traveling to Michigan. Any question, any surprise that it is one of the major battlefield states coming up on the presidential election next year.

But in any case, his main objective today is to meet in Dearborn, Michigan with the Iraqi-American community. Now, those are many of the people who protested in favor of downing Saddam Hussein during the war. Now, they will be there to meet the president.

They will be discussing reconstruction, the of course very harrowing reconstruction that we're seeing, and even the pictures out of Iraq today, about the very difficult task of trying to put together a government. Very, very difficult, and they will be discussing that.

The president will be giving his, according to the White House, optimistic vision of how Iraq can live in peace with its neighbors and build a democratic Islamic government. That is a very big question, because there are a lot of critics and even skeptics as to whether that can be done.

Now, the president then will come back at the end of the day. He will, of course, go on Thursday to San Diego to greet the USS Lincoln, as it steams into port -- Carol.

COSTELLO: All right, Chris Burns reporting live from the White House this morning.
