CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: The family of that missing North Carolina boy could get confirmation much earlier than expected that the youngster has been found. Tristen "Buddy" Myers disappeared two years ago, and now his family is hopeful that 6-year-old Eli Quick is their Buddy.
Our Gary Tuchman live from Roseboro, North Carolina this morning.

Bring us up-to-date.

GARY TUCHMAN, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Carol, good morning to you.

The FBI is telling us that it could have DNA results either today, tomorrow or Saturday. That's a far cry from just yesterday, when we were still being told it would take four to six weeks. We figured it could be done quicker, and indeed it appears it will be done quicker.

The main question, Buddy Myers, a little boy, 4 years old, who lived in this house behind me here in North Carolina disappeared October 5 in the year 2000, is he the same boy as Eli Quick, a little child who is 6 or 7 years old and right now in a foster care facility in the state of Illinois?

This case has gotten rather strange. Much of the strangeness revolves around a man named Ricky Quick. He was questioned by the FBI yesterday, later talked to reporters. He told reporters that he is the stepfather of Eli Quick; that Eli Quick is a different boy than the missing boy. He says the mother is his ex-wife, who died recently in a car crash.

But then a few hours later, he totally changed the story, said he was the father, not the stepfather, and that the mother was a drug addict who died.

So obviously this particular man, Ricky Quick, has a few issues.

Also involved in this case, the great-aunt, who lives in this house. Her name is Donna Myers. She believes this is her boy, the one in Illinois, wants the boy back in her house. She had custody of him.

And then there's Raven Myers, the birth mother. She was 15 years old when she had this little missing boy. She gave up custody. She says she also believes this is her son, and she wants to get custody back if and when this little boy comes back to the state of North Carolina.

Carol -- back to you.

COSTELLO: You know, whatever way this works out, that little boy is in for a hard time. Just a hard time. A sad story.

Thanks, Gary.
