ARTHEL NEVILLE, CNN ANCHOR: Secretary of State Colin Powell is focusing on Iraq and Mideast peace during his overseas trip.
CNN State Department producer Elise Labott joins us now for a "Wake-Up Call" to talk about Powell's efforts, as well as a warning for Americans in Saudi Arabia.

ELISE LABOTT, CNN STATE DEPARTMENT PRODUCER: Good morning, Arthel.

Secretary Powell is in Albania today, signing a partnership agreement with the foreign ministers of Croatia, Macedonia and Albania, in a show of U.S. support for these countries joining NATO next time around.

And then he's off to Syria tonight. The secretary said he expects to have a full and candid conversation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. He said he isn't looking for any specific results in Damascus, but will review where the U.S. and Syria are on a bunch of issues: the war in Iraq over, Powell saying it's high time for Syria to change its policies, U.S. alleging Syria is developing weapons of mass destruction, and harboring members of Saddam Hussein's regime.

And Secretary Powell will also press Syria to stop its support for extremist groups, such as Hezbollah. He'll discuss that new road map for peace between the Israelis and Palestinians, and that road map actually calls for a comprehensive peace involving Syria and Lebanon, where he'll stop on Saturday -- Sunday, excuse me, before heading home -- Arthel.

NEVILLE: OK, Elise Labott, thank you very much for that report.
