LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Now we're also getting information coming in from local officials here. Don Cartwright is the postmaster. He's here to tell us how things are shaping up. Your building here, which is, what, maybe 300, 400 yards away was totally devastated. That was one of your main mail handling facilities down here downtown.
DON CARTWRIGHT, JACKSON POSTMASTER: That's right. That's our processing center for the 383 and 382 area. We process mail for about 160 offices.

HARRIS: Well, it looks like you're not going to be processing anything over there but mud for a while.

HARRIS: That's right. We, just as everybody else did, we're digging out from under the rubble, and we're dealing with the situation to try to restore delivery to our customers and as quickly as we can.

And believe it or not, we delivered a large part of our area yesterday, particularly north part of town. We're going to be delivering on every route today. Obviously, there will be some areas that we won't be able to get into, because the police have barricades or power lines down and that type of thing.

As far as the mail that we processed for the other areas, we have alternate sites and surrounding sites that we're trucking the mail to them, and they're processing it and getting the mail back to us.

HARRIS: All right, well good luck with handling all of that. Don Cartwright.

Now we can see that it's not just rain, sleet, snow all that, it's tornadoes as well.

Good luck to all of you and all of your workers out there.

HARRIS: We'd like to thank our employees and customers for bearing with us as we dig through this, and they've done an excellent job, and we appreciate that.

CARTWRIGHT: Thank you. Good luck.
