CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: A Colorado toddler may have saved his dad's life. The 2-year-old boy knew there was a serious problem and he did something about it.
Shellene Cockrell of affiliate KWGN has the story.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

SHELLENE COCKRELL, KWGN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Two and a half-year-old Ethan saved the day.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I just came right here and I sat down and was about to get my book and the next thing I knew there was an officer over top of me and my son's on one side of me, you know, "Daddy, daddy, are you OK? Are you OK?"

COCKRELL: Ryan Baker was at home with his two toddler sons when he unexpectedly lost consciousness.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And so that when they came in, he was passed out on the floor. Why he passed out, no one knows.

COCKRELL: But somehow Ethan knew that something wasn't right.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: My son actually realized that something was really wrong and not just them playing on the floor and daddy was pretending to be hurt.

COCKRELL: So he climbed the bar stool to the kitchen counter and grabbed the phone that he knew he could talk into.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Ethan distinctly went up and got the phone and called somebody. Whether or not he knew he was calling his mom or not is a different story. But he knew that he had to help daddy.

COCKRELL: Somehow, some way, Ethan pushed the right buttons on the phone to call his mom.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I said, "Do you want mommy to come home?" He goes, "Mommy, no." He goes, "Daddy needs help" and he hung up the phone. It makes me realize that kids are a lot more intelligent than we give them credit for and I'm so thankful that my husband's OK and my kids were just amazing.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COSTELLO: Cute. That report from Shellene Cockrell of affiliate KWGN.
