CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Turning now to the latest on the Laci Peterson case, sources tell CNN teams are in place to search San Francisco Bay for the rest of the week.
As CNN's Rusty Dornin reports, officials are tight-lipped about this part of the investigation.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

RUSTY DORNIN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): The fourth day on San Francisco Bay, divers continue to scour the bottom. Side scanning sonars beam sound waves off the mud. No word if anything related to the Laci Peterson case has been discovered. Divers did find something that investigators pulled out of the water. After close attention, what looked from the shore like a black piece of cloth was put into a bag, possibly to be examined more closely later.

Modesto police had no comment on what, if anything meaningful, was found.

In Los Angeles, high profile attorney Gloria Allred, as expected, announced she will be representing Amber Frey. Frey is the woman who told police she had an affair with Scott Peterson in November and December, and that he never told her he was married.

As a potential witness in a capital murder case, Frey says she's not talking to anyone, except in court.

AMBER FREY, POTENTIAL WITNESS: I expect that I will be asked to testify in this case and I am prepared to do so. I don't think it's appropriate to talk about what might be contained in my testimony prior to me being called to the witness stand. Until that time, I just want to lead a normal life and regain my privacy.

DORNIN: Privacy is not the only thing Allred says she's prepared to protect.

GLORIA ALLRED, FREY'S ATTORNEY: I anticipate attacks on her by the defense and I will respond to those attacks. I would hope the press reports about her would be accurate. But if they are not, I will correct the record to protect Amber's reputation.

DORNIN: Back on the Bay after lunch, the wind came up again, making search conditions difficult. Divers climbed out of the water by early afternoon.

(on camera): Modesto police won't comment, but other police agencies involved in the search say they've committed manpower and equipment at least through Friday.

Rusty Dornin, CNN, Richmond, California.
