CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Imagine, it's almost 6:00 a.m. and no dog story. Well, it's time to fix that. Have you heard about Norman, the wayward beagle? It seems Norman wandered away from his Kansas home back in March. Well, on Friday Toto -- no, wait, that's a different missing dog story -- we mean Norman, showed up in Auburn, Alabama.
Blaine Stewart of CNN affiliate WRBL has our story.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

DARYL WAITES, FOUND NORMAN: She said I'll ask.

BLAINE STEWART, WRBL CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): While most dogs are content to chase cars, Norman here is more of a cross country traveler.

WAITES: Just wandering around in the parking lot.

STEWART: Daryl Waites found Norman nosing around on the Auburn campus Friday afternoon. He was intrigued by the tag on Norman's collar.

WAITES: We've had some other animals that have been lost for, that are owned by students. And we started looking around and saw that he was from Kansas.

STEWART: Solomon, Kansas. Daryl did a little sniffing around of his own and found Norman's owners, not in Auburn, but hundreds of miles away back in Kansas.

WAITES: And the people were just really excited to know that Norman, as we learned his name was, was alive.

STEWART: Now, everyone's trying to figure out how it happened. Did Norman really have enough paw power to make the trip on his own? Or was he just dog tired and hitched a ride? He's not saying a word.

WAITES: We'll have to call the pet psychic.

STEWART (on camera): Norman has traveled almost a thousand miles to get to Auburn. The question is, how's he going to get back?

(voice-over): That's where John Statton (ph) comes in. It just so happens John and his wife were planning a trip from Auburn to Kansas this week.

JOHN STATTON: I said to my wife, don't we have room in the car for another passenger if they need help? And she said absolutely.

Are you ready to start your trek?

STEWART: Monday morning Daryl hands the leash over to John. Norman now homeward bound with a bit of a new look.

STATTON: We're going to make him a Tiger fan whether he wants to be or not.

STEWART: Guess you can call Norman a war beagle.

Blaine Stewart for CNN, Auburn, Alabama.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COSTELLO: Oh, that was the cutest story. I wonder how Norman got there. We'll keep checking into that for you.
