CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: More trouble in Fallujah this morning. That's a city west of Baghdad. Someone fired a rocket- propelled grenade at an American Bradley fighting vehicle. Gunfire broke out and there are reports of Iraqi casualties.
We take you live to Baghdad now and Karl Penhaul.

Karl, bring us up to date.

KARL PENHAUL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Carol.

I'm here in Fallujah, and behind me perhaps you can see the kind of U.S. Army Bradley fighting vehicle that came under attack last night from a rocket-propelled grenade. That was the trigger for a firefight. And we're told by U.S. Army sources that two Iraqis were killed in that and five other Iraqis are now in detention.

We've talked to Captain Mike Readmuller (ph), he's the commander of the company that came under fire. It was a small patrol, a tank and a Bradley fighting vehicle, and he said the firefight started when a man armed with a rocket-propelled grenade simply stepped out of a dark alley and starting blasting away. The first hit -- the first round was the first one that hit the Bradley fighting vehicle. And the captain has told us that only slight damage was caused and none of the soldiers inside were injured.

Then the Iraqi attackers proceeded to blast away with three more rounds from RPGs and opened fire with AK-47s. There were also snipers on some of the roofs above. The Captian Readmuller has told us that the gunfight lasted for about two hours in total. In the course of that gunfight, a pickup truck tried to ram another Bradley fighting vehicle. And at that point, U.S. soldiers opened fire, killing the two men that were inside -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Karl Penhaul, reporting live for us from Fallujah, Iraq this morning, many thanks.
