LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Within the last few hours, President Bush declared -- quote -- "I believe now is the time to work to achieve the vision." That vision is Middle East peace, and it appears that Arab leaders now see a glimmer of hope themselves.
CNN Jerusalem Bureau Chief Mike Hanna joins us now from Sharm el- Sheikh, Egypt. That is the site of this Arab summit -- hello, Mike.

MIKE HANNA, CNN JERUSALEM BUREAU CHIEF: Hello there, Leon. Well, on the face of it, the first part of President Bush's mission to the Middle East has been successfully completed. After hours of talks in private with leaders of five Arab nations, the leaders emerged to express a common purpose.

From the Arab nations, complete backing for the road map. This document, a plan designed to end the ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians and establish an independent Palestinian state, and from the Arab nations too, the pledge to fight terror in whatever form and also to help the Palestinian Authority do so.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HOSNI MUBARAK, PRESIDENT OF EGYPT (through translator): We support the determination of the Palestinian Authority to fulfill its responsibility to end violence, and to maintain law and order as announced by Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas. We will continue to support the Palestinian Authority's efforts to uphold these commitments.
