CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Just what do you think about all of this hoopla surrounding the former first lady's book on her White House experiences? Let's get that from Gallup Poll editor-in-chief Frank Newport.
Frank, you've got numbers for us this morning.

FRANK NEWPORT, GALLUP POLL EDITOR-IN-CHIEF: Indeed we do, Carol. Hillary Clinton is one of the most polled about women in Gallup Poll history, very, very prominent.

A couple of points here. People ask us: Does she have a gender following? In other words, if she did run for president would women really be behind her? No. Very interesting, men and women -- this is in terms of their favorable opinion of the senator -- almost exactly the same: 41 percent of men and 41 percent of women.

I put politics on the right-hand side. That's what drives the image of Senator Hillary Clinton, only 18 percent of Republicans nationally a favorable opinion, and you can see this giant 71 percent of Democrats who like, of course, a member of this own party.

By the way, you just mentioned she says in the middle of August, 1998, she was shocked, gasped for breath, et cetera, when she heard her husband confessed to his affair. It wasn't a shock to the American public just in our poll vault here. As early as January of '98, 54 percent of Americans thought that it was probably true or definitely true that Bill Clinton had an affair. By April of that year, it was up to two-thirds of Americans. So, the general public certainly wasn't shocked -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Understand. Frank Newport, thanks for the interesting numbers. Appreciate it.
