CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Time to see what's going on now with the European financial markets. For that we turn to our Hala Gorani in London.
Good morning to you -- Hala.

HALA GORANI, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Carol.

It's a pretty good day and that's following a rally on Wall Street yesterday. Overall, markets are up between three-quarters of a percent and 1 percent across the region. The best performer so far this session the DAX in Frankfurt.

Finally, some good news for a big media company. Vivendi Universal said that in its first quarter it beat operating profit forecasts and it stuck to some provisions and forecasts for the rest of the year. You may remember that Vivendi Universal, which owns of course Universal Pictures, last year hosted the biggest net corporate loss in the history of France.

And a little bit of toy store magic for you. Hamleys in London, if you've ever visited London you might know it. It's like the FAO Schwarz of London. It's changing hands. It's being bought by an Icelandic company for a pretty good price because the board is recommending it to its shareholders.

Back to you -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Got you. Hala Gorani, live from London, thanks very much.
