CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Time now, though, to get a check of the financial markets overseas. For that we turn to our Hala Gorani in London.
Good morning, Hala. And word of David Beckham.

HALA GORANI, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Absolutely. David Beckham, it's all everyone's talking about, in this newsroom at least. Here, let me just give you an example of how this is big news in the U.K. and around the world. This is the front page of every single tabloid. And even...

COSTELLO: I just like to look at pictures of them.

GORANI: ... in fact, are going with it. Absolutely, and he has a very lovely hairdo. He changes it about every two weeks. Always keeps you entertained.

Well, as a result of this transfer deal, $40 million, Man United shares are actually up again 3.5 percent. The reason for that is because investors in the football club are saying it's $40 million in cash, Manchester United has this great injection of fresh money. What they can do with it is up to them right now. They can buy brand new star players, they can reinvest it in the club, they can pay out dividends, so this is really good news for Manchester United. And David Beckham is going to Real Madrid, a club that already has great superstars on the football field, if you follow football, Carol, Zinedine Zidane, Renaldo the Brazilian player, among others.

Now overall on the stock market -- I don't know if you do, we do here. The stock market is pretty boring, flat. The FTSE 100 is down about a tenth of a percent. The DAX, the CAC and the SMI all down between a tenth of a percent and a third of a percent, so not much action there. And we're just waiting to see from your side of the Atlantic exactly what the futures will be indicating with more certainty.

And euro-dollar, the euro is down, the dollar is up slightly at 11755 (ph).

That's a quick look at the business world here. Back to you -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Yes, you just calling it football threw me for a second, but its you call it soccer football there, of course.

GORANI: Soccer, of course, I'm sorry. COSTELLO: Yes. What will you guys do without David Beckham and his lovely wife? They're big celebrities there.

GORANI: Well I think probably if I were Posh Spice, I mean that's what she was called when she was singing with the Spice Girls. But if I were Victoria Beckham, I'd probably prefer to live in Madrid rather than Manchester in England in terms of shops, it's a bit better. He has voiced his displeasure with the way he was treated at Manchester United. Manchester United, according to the analysts and the sports journalists who talk about it, are saying it's just bigger than any one player so it will continue to be one of the most followed clubs in football throughout Europe.

David Beckham is joining one of the best sides in football with, as I said, those big superstars. So he will still be one of the most followed players, especially in Asia where all the sponsorship deals bring in so much money for the clubs -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Yes, he'll still be very well paid.

Hala Gorani, many thanks, it was a lot of fun this morning.
