DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Martha Stewart suddenly an art critic? Andy Serwer is "Minding Your Business."
Good morning.

ANDY SERWER, "FORTUNE" MAGAZINE: Good morning. Yes, I mean, media circus, it was just a field day down there at the courthouse yesterday. Martha Stewart getting sentenced -- not sentenced -- excuse me.

KAGAN: No, whoa, whoa, whoa.

(CROSSTALK)

SERWER: I'm jumping the gun there. Boy, wouldn't that be something that she's getting sentenced? No.

KAGAN: How about just a little trial date?

SERWER: Her trial date set. I'm sorry.

KAGAN: OK.

SERWER: You know, I wish, you know. Her trial date is set for January 12, which is really good news, because that means she's going to be home for the holidays, Daryn. Isn't that good stuff? Even "The New York Times" in the third paragraph of their story talks about her outfit, a tasteful plaid jacket, slacks and leopard mules. Why do they call shoes "mules?"

KAGAN: I don't know, but these are mules.

SERWER: Oh, those are mules?

JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: They smell like mules.

KAGAN: Mules are when you don't have any back to your shoe.

CAFFERTY: There is another name for those.

SERWER: Anyway, Martha Stewart and the sketch artist, this is really funny. So, the sketch artists are down there at the courtroom doing their thing.

KAGAN: Right.

SERWER: And she had a little run-in with one of the sketch artists. I didn't think -- I agree with Leon. Leon was sort of making some disparaging comments about that sketch. I agree. That is not so flattering. I mean...

KAGAN: You don't think so?

SERWER: She's 61 years old, and she looks better than that, I think. Come on. Anyway...

KAGAN: Anyhow, what happened with her and the sketch artist?

SERWER: The sketch artist later came up to Martha Stewart and asked her, she said, well, gee, I hope I didn't bother you. Let's check out this little sound byte here.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CHRISTINE CORNELL, SKETCH ARTIST: Afterwards, when I was walking by, I said to her, 'I'm sorry for peering at you so closely, I'm just trying to do a better drawing.' And she looked at me. She didn't exactly smile, but she paused for a second and then she said, "No pockmarks and perfect skin." And I said 'Got it.'

(END VIDEOTAPE)

SERWER: It's amazing. She's keeping up appearances even for the sketch artists. And you can see there, the sketch artist was intimidated, right? I mean, why is the sketch artist apologizing to this person who is indicted, right? It's unbelievable.

KAGAN: It's all about how it looks.

SERWER: And there was a resemblance between the sketch artist and Martha, maybe.

KAGAN: Maybe they bonded. Andy, thank you. We'll see you later on in the morning.

SERWER: OK.
