HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Hey, it's Friday, which means new releases at the theaters for you this weekend. The sequel to "Charlie's Angels" definitely tops that list.
Russ Leatherman joins us from Los Angeles now to tell us about it.

Mr. Moviefone, how are you?

RUSS LEATHERMAN, "MR. MOVIEFONE": Happy Friday. I'm good, how are you?

COLLINS: I'm just great. I'm not going to see this movie though. Are you?

LEATHERMAN: Why?

Yes. Here's the deal with "Charlie's Angels," right, if t&a and a couple good things to look at is all you need -- and, in fact, there are plenty of people that will be just fine for -- then this move is going to do extremely well. If you need any of that other movie stuff, like a cohesive plot, or some funny stuff or some acting or any of that, then you've got some trouble with this movie.

COLLINS: Is that it? I mean, we're looking, obviously, at some of what you just referred to a moment ago, and I'm sure there's plenty of it in the movie. But what about the stunts? There's got to be something more to it, isn't there?

LEATHERMAN: There is. There is some fun stuff to look at. Even the stunts, there's a lot of rehash of old "Matrix"-style stunts, so there's nothing original here, which is sort of a shame. I really wanted to like this movie, but as each minute went by, I kind of liked it less and less.

And the thing that struck me the most, I think, is the fact that these girls love themselves so much, meaning there's so much self-love going on here -- not that kind of love. That's not what I was referring to. But you know, there's such an arrogance about not only the characters, but the movie itself that there is just no way that the audience can love it as much as they do.

COLLINS: Right, probably not. What about the next one in "28 Days Later." This one is very creepy, about a virus that gets out and causes people to murder people.

LEATHERMAN: Yes, I think this is a really fun movie, and it's a creepy movie. It's much better for what it is than "Charlie's Angels." It's directed by Danny Boyle (ph), the same guy who did "Trainspotting," which is a dirty, gritty kind of movie, and this is a dirty, gritty kind of horror movie. It's about these animal protection people who go in and release a bunch of monkeys from a research center. These monkeys are infected. And all of a sudden, 28 days later, there are zombies wandering the streets, dead people everywhere, you know, lots of kind of George Romero, "Night of the Living Dead" flashbacks and those kind of things. So for what it is, I think this is probably a better movie this weekend. Hard to believe, because we all wanted to love "Charlie's Angels," but this is the better movie.

COLLINS: Did we?

LEATHERMAN: We sort of did.

COLLINS: All right, Russ Leatherman, thank you so much. Have a great weekend. Get out to the theaters, I guess, huh?

LEATHERMAN: Next week "Terminator, Rise of the Machines," and that'll be good. Please, please, give me something.

COLLINS: All right, Russ, thank you so much. See you later on.
