CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: As we told you just a bit earlier, they are coping now in Jefferson City, Missouri. An employee, enraged or depressed, opened fire in a manufacturing plant. Three are dead, and there are four who are wounded this morning.
Let's go live to Jefferson City and KCTV reporter Eric Chaloux.

Good morning -- Eric.

ERIC CHALOUX, KCTV REPORTER: Good morning.

It's a very emotional scene here around the Modine Manufacturing plant. Several of the employees are still around this plant, have had tears in their eyes as we've talked to them about what happened.

Now, the shootings happened right behind these tractor-trailers here near Jefferson City. If we could take a look at some video crews shot minutes after the bullets started flying around 10:30 last night, it was the time co-workers and workers were getting ready to get off. It was a shift change here at the plant.

Now, Jefferson City police say three employees were shot inside the plant by a fellow co-worker. Two died inside the plant, the third transported to an area hospital, where they later died.

Meanwhile, as family and friends were coming to the plant to find out if their loved one was OK, we spoke to one woman who on the cell phone talked to her husband inside the plant and found out that he was OK.

But about five miles to the west of here, two blocks from the Jefferson City -- the state Capitol, rather, of Missouri, police encountered a man, who was an employee here. There was a shooting involved, where that man was shot -- the shooting, rather, was with the police. Jefferson City police is still investigating to see how that man did die.

Again, there are folks transported to area hospitals injured. Again, three people gunned down inside a manufacturing plant. The alleged shooter reportedly dead right on the front lawn of the police department.

That's the latest from here in Jefferson City.

Now back to you.

COSTELLO: Oh, Eric, that brings up so many questions. What can you tell us about this suspect? We know he's in his 20s. It's odd that he stopped his truck near the police department. Of course, we don't know yet why he did that.

CHALOUX: Right. Investigators are still piecing this together. On the back side of these trailers, there are investigators from the Jefferson City police department, along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, trying to piece together exactly what did happen.

Again, the police department is five miles to the west of here, and that man, again, shot right in the parking lot, right in front of the police department. A lot more questions right now than answers.

COSTELLO: Yes, and we understand the truck was stopped. A police officer noticed it, recognized the description that had been put out, went up to the truck, and then apparently the man in the truck had a gun, and that's when the exchange of gunfire occurred. Do we know anything more about this employee?

CHALOUX: The employees we've talked to that are still here -- now, the plant is shut down. There were several hundred employees inside the plant at the time of the shooting, again, at shift change. I asked some of the employees that were still here if they knew the shooter, and they did not. Again, a very large manufacturing plant that actually manufactures oil filters and air filters for engines, but the employees here, the few that were still here, are still trying to come to grips as best they can as to what happened last night.

COSTELLO: All right, Eric Chaloux, thanks for the live update from Jefferson City, Missouri this morning.
