CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: A Waco, Texas police spokesman warns the longer the investigation goes on, the more likely it will end badly.
CNN's Ed Lavandera is covering the case of Baylor's missing basketball player.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ED LAVANDERA, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Waco investigators say they have several people they're interested in that might be connected to the disappearance of Baylor basketball player Patrick Dennehy and the only so-called person of interest on the Baylor basketball team is Carlton Dotson. Dotson is in his hometown in Maryland and has already hired an attorney. And over the last couple of days, we've heard several of his family members come out to defend him, saying that the information that was in a search warrant affidavit that was made public here in Waco a few days ago cannot be true.

Meanwhile, Waco investigators continue to search for the body of Patrick Dennehy. They say technically this is still a missing persons cases, but all indications are that they're treating this as a possible homicide investigation at this point. They've searched areas north and south of Waco, but they still haven't had any luck finding Patrick Dennehy.

Also, officials here saying that this will probably turn out to be a very slow investigation and because of that, Waco investigators have scheduled no more press conferences here in the City of Waco.

Ed Lavandera, CNN, Waco, Texas.

COSTELLO: And the attorney hired by Carlton Dotson is dismissing an informant's statement linking Dotson to Dennehy's disappearance.

Grady Irvin says he's trying to stop what he calls wild rumors.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GRADY IRVIN, CARLTON DOTSON'S ATTORNEY: I think the best thing for us to do at this particular time is, number one, for us to be prayerful for the Dennehy family, for the Dotson family, to allow police to continue to conduct their investigation, for people not to impede that investigation by making unfounded rumors to make inferences and suggestions which don't get us to where we're trying to get to, and that is to find out the whereabouts of Patrick Dennehy.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

COSTELLO: Irvin says any time an informant appears at a trial, a judge will remind jurors to be very careful in considering his testimony.
