FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: A day after President Bush challenged Iraqis to "bring them on," they has been a series of attacks on U.S. troops, one of them deadly.
CNN's Jane Arraf joins us from the Iraqi capital with the very latest.

And what appears already, Jane, to be almost like a daily thing now.

JANE ARRAF, CNN BAGHDAD BUREAU CHIEF: It does, Fredricka. And today being the Fourth of July, some of the troops are trying to celebrate, but it certainly casts a pall over it, these latest casualties.

Now, U.S. military officials say one soldier from the 1st Armored Division was shot and killed as he was guarding the Baghdad Municipal Museum in the capital last night. He was actually standing in the gun turret of a Bradley Fighting Vehicle outside the museum when he was hit by either a sniper or a burst of gunfire. He died after being taken to a hospital.

An attack as well overnight on a military compound north of the city -- in the city of Balad. That was mortar rounds, and they wounded between 10 and 19 American soldiers.

Also this morning, an attack on a U.S. armored vehicle, reports that it wounded one soldier when an explosive device either was thrown at it or the vehicle ran over it.

Now, all of that not great news for these soldiers who are trying to at least celebrate this in some fashion. To help that, Arnold Schwarzenegger, the movie star and former bodybuilder, was in town. He's at one of the military bases in Baghdad, sharing a meal with the troops, as well as showing his latest movie before he goes off to other points in the region -- Fredricka.

WHITFIELD: All right, Jane Arraf, thanks very much from Baghdad.
