PHIL KEATING, KDVR CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Twenty-four-year- old Kobe Bryant, who seven years ago shot from high school right to NBA superstardom, is now fighting perhaps the biggest challenge of his life here in Colorado's Vail Valley. Bryant is accused of felony sexual assault. The alleged victim, a young woman who works at the exclusive lodge at Cordeira (ph), west of Beaver Creek.

According to two sources, right before the Fourth of July weekend, Bryant visited the nationally renowned Steadman-Hawkins Clinic at Vail, which specializes in treating injured knees. During that time, the allegation of sex assault was reported to the Eagle County sheriff's office, which then concluded it had enough evidence to issue an arrest warrant.

(on camera): By that time, Bryant had already returned to L.A. But according to sources, on July 4th, Bryant flew back here to the Vail Valley with his attorney, his wife and his young child, turned himself in and posted his $25,000 bond.
