KRIS OSBORN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, much of the NBA is still buzzing about what you've likely heard about by now, the arrest of Kobe Bryant last week and the allegations of sexual assault leveled against him.
CNN's Frank Buckley has more on the case.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

FRANK BUCKLEY, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Authorities say the star basketball player turned himself in on July 4th, after an arrest warrant was issued. Bryant was staying at this hotel in the Edwards area outside of Vail, Colorado. Authorities will only say that the alleged victim is an adult female who claims Bryant sexually assaulted her.

MARK HURLBERT, EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO DISTRICT ATTORNEY: The bottom line was the judge was a county court judge that looked at the affidavit and found probable cause in this case.

BUCKLEY: Bryant is married and has a daughter, who was born in January.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Meet Kobe Bryant. He's had a pretty effective first quarter.

BUCKLEY: He is one of the NBA's brightest stars and a popular figure among fans.

Teammates say the allegation against Bryant doesn't sound like the Kobe Bryant they know.

KAREEM RUSH, LAKERS PLAYER: That's totally out of his character. But, you know, who knows? I don't think it's true, so I'm going to stand by him and say that it's a hundred percent not true.

JANNERO PARGO, LAKERS PLAYER: He's a happily married man, you know? And I'm sure he's happy. You know, he talks about his wife all the time. So I mean I just can't wait for the truth to come out.

BUCKLEY (on camera): One person who regularly travels with the Lakers when the team is on the road who has observed Bryant on dozens of trips says that Bryant has a reputation of having a quiet life on the road. He doesn't have people hanging around his room. He isn't drinking, according to this source. And two bodyguards are with him wherever he goes.

If the allegations are true, he says, this represents a complete Jekyll and Hyde.

(voice-over): Bryant's attorneys issued a statement that he is innocent and expects to be completely exonerated. Authorities, meanwhile, are taking the allegation against Kobe Bryant seriously and the district attorney says he expects to make a decision on whether to file charges against him by the end of the weekend.

Frank Buckley, CNN, Eagle, Colorado.
