Bush in Botswana

FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: A land of contrasts, it's ranked the least corrupt country in Africa. It has a fast growing economy, but also the highest rate of HIV in the world. We're talking about Botswana. President Bush is there today and so is CNN's White House correspondent Suzanne Malveaux -- good morning to you, Suzanne.
SUZANNE MALVEAUX, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, good morning, Fred.

President Bush is going to be spending the day in Botswana. He's going to be highlighting the trade initiatives. This is really considered a shining example of democracy. This is the largest producers of diamonds. It also has the fastest growth rate in the world, or one of the fastest rates.

Now, yesterday President Bush was in Pretoria. That is where he toured a Ford Motor plant where he promoted the African Growth and Opportunity Act, which allows African exports into the United States tariff free.

Now, one of the reasons why President Bush is going to be here in Botswana is also to highlight the tragedy, the economic as well as human tragedy of AIDS. According to the United Nations, it has the highest rate of infection in the world, who say anywhere from 30 to 40 percent of the population is infected. A life expectancy of 35 to 39 years old.

Now, Botswana has a unique program. They actually are trying to provide free medicine for all those who are infected in the country. It is seen as really a model.

Now, President Bush also introducing his $15 billion five year AIDS initiative to combat AIDS. Now, later today, Fred, the president is going to be touring a national reserve to highlight wildlife conservation -- Fred.
