SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: The actor who plays Berger says he's tried to make the character a down to earth kind of guy.
Ron Livingston joins us this morning.

Nice to see you.

RON LIVINGSTON, ACTOR: Good to see you.

O'BRIEN: Let's talk about how you got this gig. People remember you from "Band of Brothers," where you were with a bunch of guys wearing fatigue, sweaty, yuck. And then all of a sudden, next thing you know, you're in bed with Sarah Jessica Parker in this show.

LIVINGSTON: Rolling around in bed and from rolling around in the mud, it's a good jump.

O'BRIEN: A very nice jump.

LIVINGSTON: I think HBO probably still has me on the Rolodex and it was on the speed dial.

O'BRIEN: Let's talk about jack last season where we met Jack Berger, and you say a down to earth kind of guy, but he's got a couple of issues. He's got very present ex-girlfriend in his life. He has a very annoying sound system, the chirping frogs, other problems as well. Fill me in on him a little.

LIVINGSTON: He comes kind of with a trunk full of junk, but there's -- I've tried to put a little bit of myself in the character, and I wanted to be somebody...

O'BRIEN: Ex-girlfriend, frog sound system.

LIVINGSTON: You know, you get to a certain age that you generally don't come brand new out of the wrapper, and there's a couple of ex-girlfriends in there. I think I'm a much better sleeper than Jack. I don't have a problem with that, but, yes, I don't think so.

O'BRIEN: Can we talk a little bit about next season? Do the writers tell you a general direction where it's going to head, because I read you are signed up and locked in for the next 20 episodes.

LIVINGSTON: They don't do that. They don't tell you, at least not on this one. I think they subscribe to the cast of lock it theory, where they won't let us know what's going to happen. O'BRIEN: How far ahead do you know? I mean, they've got to give you some information.

LIVINGSTON: We generally know as far ahead as we have scripts, so which is, maybe, two episodes. So from what you see on the air, I know maybe three or four episode ahead of that.

O'BRIEN: Because, of course, for the last five seasons, we've all been wondering which the girls will get hitched. It's all about trying to find true love in the city. Weigh in on whether you think your character and Sarah Jessica Parker's character are potential true loves.

He's hedging already.

You do the whole thing like this. You're not going to say, come on. This is why we're here.

LIVINGSTON: I can tell you that there is an episode coming up where he's going to get very angry and turn green and start throwing things around, but, no, other than that.

O'BRIEN: That's such a bad clue. I can tell you? That's a terrible clue.

LIVINGSTON: Zero points on that one, but it's pretty good, though. That's a question that's been in a lot of people's minds. How's it going to end? But you don't want to actually know how it's going to end. You want to watch and see, right?

O'BRIEN: You know, you're right, that is true. It's nice to see you. Thanks for stopping by this morning. I know it's certainly early out here.

LIVINGSTON: Welcome to Los Angeles.

O'BRIEN: Thanks very much. It's been great so far. If the sun would just come up we'd be able to see a little more.
