FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: In California, police in Bakersfield say they are looking for a 22-caliber gun and a stabbing weapon in the murders of five family members. They say that Vincent Brothers is their only suspect in the killings of his wife, children and mother-in-law. Brothers was in custody in North Carolina but was let go because a lack of evidence.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CHIEF ERIC MATLOCK, BAKERSFIELD POLICE: I want to make sure that we get this thing right. The family deserves it and the community deserves it. But I also shared with the officers, and they know this, that we will be meticulous, methodical and relentless in our investigation.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

WHITFIELD: The investigation has now expanded to Ohio, though police are not saying what they're expecting to learn there.

Relatives of the family are still trying to figure out what may have happened ahead of such a tragedy. Reporter Alexia Capinar (ph) of our affiliate KBAK in Bakersfield spoke to one of Vincent Brothers' cousins.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The family of Vincent Brothers, the man suspected of killing his estranged wife, mother-in-law and three young children, stopped by the house on P Street (ph), where the bodies were found Tuesday morning to grieve.

Odila Brisby says her first cousin, Vincent Brothers, is acting suspicious.

ODILA BRISBY, VINCENT BROTHERS' COUSIN: He don't have no remorse about nothing. He's just walking, like -- I mean, his family is still walking around here living, his family is gone, you know. He could have been gone out crying, you know, doing something. He's don't care.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Another cousin of Vincent Brothers, Rosalyn Brisby, can't figure out why anyone would harm such a loving family.

ROSALYN BRISBY, VINCENT BROTHERS' COUSIN: I mean, why would you take people like that from a community? You know, people that are trying to help make a better community for everybody else. The Brisby's say their cousin, Vincent Brothers, has a history of domestic violence with previous wives and girlfriends.

R. BRISBY: It seems like another O.J. Simpson thing going on. Just get away with murder.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

WHITFIELD: And that report from Alexia Capinar (ph) of KBAK.
