LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: All right. Pirates and a few extraordinary gentlemen are taking over the big screen this weekend.
And joining us now for a preview is Russ Leatherman, also known as Mr. Moviefone.

Good to see you again, Russ.

RUSS LEATHERMAN, "MR. MOVIEFONE": Yo-ho, yo-ho, it's a pirate's life for me.

HARRIS: Let me see, it's 7:50 in the morning, you must just be getting home from the party this morning, huh?

LEATHERMAN: Argh, matey.

HARRIS: I take it this means you liked the movie?

LEATHERMAN: I did like this movie. I thought this movie was great. I tried the makeup at the bar last night, as a matter of fact, and it worked pretty well. So I figure if it's good for Johnny, it's good for me.

The thing that's great about this movie, is it makes so many references to the theme park ride. I don't know if you've been on the Pirates of the Caribbean theme park ride, but you remember, when the guys are in jail and their whistling at the dog, they get that in there. They get the wench chasing all the dudes around, all the pirates around. They have the big by wallowing in the mud with the pigs. That was the most fun part of this ride. But also the story is pretty good, the action is good. The -- you know, Johnny Depp is a little bit of a swishy swashbuckler, if you know what I'm talking about. It's strange -- you don't really understand what or who he is, but I thought the movie was a lot of fun, and I've been talking like a pirate ever since -- argh.

HARRIS: The thing is, pirate movies, you know, in the last 30, 40 years really haven't done that well.

But I have to say, when I saw that Johnny Depp's name was on this, I know this guy always takes some of the quirkiest roles that are available, and he always does some kind of magic with them. So I figured this has a chance.

HARRIS: That's exactly right, and that's what he did with this character. He made him sort of ambiguous, so we don't know exactly what he is. But it's just a lot of fun. This is one of those summer movies that although we've had a lot of them, a lot of action-style movies. This one is a lot of fun, you leave your brain at the door, and you start talking like a pirate.

HARRIS: Some of us do, apparently.

Let's talk about the next one, "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." This one seems to be a bit far fetched to me. But you tell me, how did it turn out on screen for you?

LEATHERMAN: Argh. Can we talk about pirates some more?

No, I'm kidding. "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" is Sean Connery. It's really sort of an "X-Men" for blue hairs, you know what I'm talking about? It's a group of literary characters who are out to save the world, who are superheroes out to save the world from a madman known as The Phantom. So the story is very much like we've seen all summer long, where you have these superhero characters and they have to save the world. Frankly, I think this is a little too little, too late. We've seen it, we've done it. It's kind of a messy movie. There are a lot of effects, but they're all kind of jumbled together. My suggestion is if you're going to see a big blockbuster style movie this weekend, you go see the pirates.

HARRIS: You know what, I think I may take you up on that one.

LEATHERMAN: Hey, Leon, why couldn't the little pirate get in to see the movie?

HARRIS: Why is that?

LEATHERMAN: It's rated R! No, it's actually PG-13. So it's good for the kids. They're going to like it.

HARRIS: I walked right into that one, didn't I, just walked right into it? Get out of here, man.

LEATHERMAN: All right, man, see you next week, argh.
