LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: CNN's pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr has been chasing down the story all morning, so let's chase her down. She's at her post right now with the latest developments -- Barbara.
BARBARA STARR, CNN PENTAGON CORRESPONDENT: Leon, Air Force officials tell us this morning that all nine people do remain ill with what he calls mild to moderate respiratory symptoms. Now, they do remain in quarantine at their homes. No one is ill enough to require hospitalization.

And again, all of this began at Dyess Air Force Base when one airman reported to the clinic on July 8th, we are told, with respiratory symptoms. Five other air force members and three family members also coming down with respiratory symptoms after their travel to Canada.

A Dyess spokesman earlier this morning talked to CNN and explained specifically, more specifically, why the decision was made to put these people into quarantine as a public health precaution.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

LT. SAJE PARK, DYESS AFB PUBLIC AFFAIRS: When it came after questioning that they had passed through Toronto Airport recently, earlier in the month, we are taking just the necessary precautions as if they did have something related to SARS.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

STARR: Now, while Air Force officials and health officials are saying it's a public health precaution, there is concern, and the CDC has told CNN this morning if, a big if, but if these cases are proven positive, if it is proven to have SARS, it could lead to the reinstatement of the travel warning to Canada, and earlier this morning, we are told Canadian health officials and DoD military officials held a conference call to talk about the situation -- Leon.

HARRIS: Thank you, Barbara. Barbara Starr at the Pentagon.
