CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Want to go back live now to Port Lavaca, the Texas city expected to be the center of the bull's eye for Claudette.
And joining us live there, Kristen Thorn of CNN affiliate News 24 Houston.

Kristen, it's looking nasty there.

KRISTEN THORN, NEWS 24 HOUSTON: It is looking nasty, and it's actually coming in as we speak. When we got here last night, it was kind of dark and desolate and the winds weren't very heavy. Now the winds are beginning to pick up and the rain is beginning to fall. It's falling one way and then another. So the direction of the wind is misdirectional, actually.

About two years ago there was a tropical storm warning and a voluntary evacuation was issued and no one really left then. And they said well it worked then, they're not going to leave now. Well the sheriff here says that he would like for his people to think about safety first. He's asking that his people do go ahead and follow through with the voluntary evacuation. However, most of the people we've spoken to say that they are going to weather it out. They're going to see what happens.

They're stocking up on food, water and other things along those lines. They're also pulling their boats out of the water and pulling them in to safety. In addition to that, they are keeping a close eye on the storm, watching weather reports and hoping for the best. Of course they're also boarding up their windows and things along those lines, trying to stay as safe as possible in their homes. Once again, most of the people that we've talked to say that they are staying right here in Port Lavaca going to weather out the storm and just see what happens.

COSTELLO: All right. You be careful there, too. Kristen Thorn, many thanks, joining us live from Lavaca, Texas this morning.
