CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: It's being hailed as one of the most successful rock tours during the past year.
Tina Panetta (ph) of CNN affiliate WABC shows us how "The Boss" is taking charge.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

TINA PANETTA, WABC CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): The Meadowland crowd went wild for their native son. Clad in all black, he first took the stage solo, giving the packed stadium a wistful rendition of "Born In the USA."

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: I was born in the USA.

PANETTA: The cheers then peaked as the East Street Band brought their musical talents together on stage, proving why this has been one of the most successful tours in the history of rock and roll.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Hey!

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yo, Bruce!

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Bruce!

PANETTA: The ticket sales for the 10 days in East Rutherford set a new record for the longest stadium run of all time by any performer. Drawing Bruce's fans from right here at home...

UNIDENTIFIED FANS: That ain't got no faith to stand its ground.

PANETTA: ... and from all over the country.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Springsteen himself is like just a common man, a common man singing about common things, everyday things that everybody goes through.

PANETTA: And to show what Jerseyans are about, a little of the shore was trucked in, the boardwalk recreated down to the last grain of sand. And in the parking lot, the sea.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We've got some clams going. We're from Asbury Park, Ocean Township, right next to Asbury Park. Here with my parent celebrating Bruce for many years.

PANETTA: And these fans will keep coming for many more years, as long as "The Boss" comes home to them. SPRINGSTEEN: Well, some day...

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COSTELLO: Our thanks to Tina Panetta of our New York affiliate WABC for that story.
