DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Now we come back here to the U.S., where we are also following a case of unexplained deaths in a Maryland hospital. The focus is on a nurse who was entrusted to care for the most helpless. Police are investigating whether this nurse hastened the deaths of critically ill patients.
Our Patty Davis is outside of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland.

Patty -- good morning.

PATTY DAVIS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Daryn, the actions of nurse Colleen Thompson (ph), a nurse in the intensive care unit here at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, are under investigation. Police specifically looking into whether Thompson (ph), as you said, hastened the death of a patient, or perhaps more than one patient.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DEBORAH YANCERE, SHADY GROVE ADVENTIST HOSPITAL: The nurse in question has not worked in this hospital from the moment this concern was first raised, and she has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. I want to caution that an investigation is under way, and these remain allegations.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

DAVIS: One incident under investigation, according to Maryland's Nursing Board, a 63-year-old woman who died July 6 in Thompson's (ph) care. The woman had plummeting blood pressure, and the Nursing Board alleges that Thompson (ph) did not call doctors and she did not intervene as she should have. The woman apparently, according to the Nursing Board, had requested that she be resuscitated by all means, and that did not happen in this case.

Now, Thompson (ph), her license to practice has been suspended, but at this point we have no criminal charges filed yet. This investigation is ongoing -- Daryn.

KAGAN: Patty Davis, thank you, with the latest from Rockville, Maryland. Appreciate that.
