CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Time for a little business buzz right now. A new doll is getting ready to hit toy store shelves and this one has attitude.
Carrie Lee has the details for us live from New York.

Tell us about it.

CARRIE LEE, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Attitude in a good way, Carol. Mattel is rolling out a new line of dolls later this month called Flavas. They have a hip-hop style, very hip clothing. Six different dolls all with unique features, things like different heights. They wear miniskirts, high-heeled boots, chains, very hip, very modern.

Mattel hasn't created too many dolls to compete with Barbie, which made her debut in 1959. But while Barbie appeals to 3 to 7 year olds, Flavas are going to be marketed to the 8 to 12-year-old group, often called 'tweens, and that's because Barbie has been losing market share to a new crop of sassy dolls with oversized heads and pouty lips called Bratz.

Now Bratz were rolled out in 2001. A toy maker called MGA Entertainment is behind those. And they've been very popular with this 'tween market. So now this new line of Flavas, Carol, expected to compete with those Bratz dolls. And you just saw the picture, they're very cute, very hip and modern looking.

COSTELLO: Very cute.

LEE: Yes.

COSTELLO: And any doll who wears chains would be attractive to teens.

Thank you, Carrie Lee, reporting live from New York.

LEE: OK.
