LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: And up first this first hour of CNN LIVE TODAY, more details about the American soldier who was killed in Fallujah.
Our Harris Whitbeck is following the story for us this morning.

Harris, what's the latest development now?

HARRIS WHITBECK, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Leon.

The details at this hour are still a bit sketchy. We know one U.S. soldier from the army's 3rd Infantry Division was killed when the vehicle he was riding in drove over what the military is referring to as an improvised explosive device. The force of the explosion was so great it pushed the vehicle over two lanes of traffic and created a huge crater in the road. This is the second incident in three days in which a U.S. soldier has died in combat-related situations, and this happened in the town of Fallujah, about 32 miles west of Baghdad.

Fallujah is considered to be a hotbed of support for Saddam Hussein, and many of the attacks against U.S. soldiers have occurred in that area, which is also within what is referred to as the Sunni Triangle, which, again, is an area of influence to Saddam loyalists.

So that's what we have at this hour, Leon, one more U.S. soldier killed when his vehicle drove over what the military refers to as an improvised explosive device.

HARRIS: Harris Whitbeck, live in Baghdad, thank you, Harris.
