CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Just as DAYBREAK went on the air this morning, word of a new audiotape, and supposedly on it, the voice of a defiant Saddam Hussein. The Arab language TV network, Al Arabiya, is running the tape. We're working on translating it right now, but we do know the speaker urges Iraqis to fight U.S. forces and says the war is not over. We'll have more on that tape in just a minute.
And just before we got word of that new audiotape, we got word of two separate attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq -- one of the attacks in Mosul, where Uday and Qusay were killed.

Live to Mosul now and Harris Whitbeck.

One soldier killed in Mosul, right?

HARRIS WHITBECK, CNN CORRESPONDENT: That's correct, Carol, one soldier killed and six were wounded in an attack on a convoy near Mosul. Apparently, an explosive device was detonated as this convoy drove by.

There was also an attack near Ramadi, which is closer to Baghdad. In that incident, another U.S. soldier was also killed and two were wounded. U.S. military sources are saying an improvised explosive device was used in that attack.

So, two U.S. soldiers killed today, the day after Saddam Hussein's two older sons were killed by U.S. forces during a very intense firefight that occurred at the house which is behind me here in Mosul. U.S. military sources say that they had acted upon intelligence received by one source of information. They had about 24 hours to organize this operation and to launch it, and they did act within that 24 hour window.

Our source is telling us that the person who gave the information to the U.S. military will receive the two $50 million rewards that had been offered for information leading to Uday and Qusay, Saddam Hussein's older sons.

Reaction to that incident on the streets of Mosul today. The area around the house has now been cleared by the U.S. military. Earlier, there were small groups of people gathered here, many of them chanting pro-Saddam Hussein slogans and, again, criticizing U.S. military actions in Iraq -- Carol.

COSTELLO: But there were celebrations, too, that Uday and Qusay were dead. WHITBECK: That's correct. There were celebrations last night in Baghdad. The skies of Baghdad were lit by gunfire last night. It was celebratory gunfire after word leaked out that Saddam Hussein's two older sons had, in fact, been killed.

COSTELLO: So, a mixed reaction this morning. Harris Whitbeck live from Mosul this morning.
