ANDERSON COOPER, ANCHOR: More now on our crime watch. The parents of the missing Baylor University basketball player speak out for the first time.
Also, jurors begin deliberating in the case of a white California police officer caught on tape hitting a black teenager.

And a startling revelation that a D.C. sniper suspect may have staged his attacks for revenge.

We have reporters across the country covering all aspects of these stories tonight. First here's our law enforcement correspondent, Mike Brooks, with details on the Baylor player case -- Mike.

MIKE BROOKS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good evening, Anderson.

As the Waco police continue their investigation, the last two days they have not conducted an active search for the body of Patrick Dennehy. They said yesterday because of weather they couldn't go out and also they said yesterday they were regrouping.

Today I asked them why. They said they would be out there if they had something to look for.

Just a short time ago, friends and associates of Patrick Dennehy gathered at his apartment. They are loading up a U-haul truck with his belongings from his apartment to take them back with the family to Nevada.

Also earlier today, the family addressed the media.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BROOKS (voice-over): Patrick Dennehy's family came out publicly today to talk about how their visit to Waco has been a painful one as they pack up their son's belongings.

VALERIE BRABAZON, MOTHER OF PATRICK DENNEHY: It was very hard on me as a mother trying to fold his clothes up and take care of all of that. Because, like I said, everything there was his and the only thing was missing was actually my son. And it was kind of hard for me. I left out and left it to Jessica to finish up.

JESSICA DE LA ROSA, DENNEHY'S GIRLFRIEND: We finished up. I was finishing up in his empty room. And just lying down on that bed I couldn't believe I was sitting there under these circumstances. BROOKS: Meanwhile, Carlton Dotson, his former teammate and friend, sits in a jail cell in Kent County, Maryland, charged with Dennehy's murder.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

BROOKS: Dotson is fighting extradition back here to Waco, Texas, but his next court appearance is scheduled for August 19 in Kent County, Maryland -- Anderson.

COOPER: All right. Mike Brooks, thanks very much. Going to be a lot more about this case on "LARRY KING LIVE" tonight. The parents of Patrick Dennehy are going to be speaking as well as his girlfriend.
