SOPHIA CHOI, CNN ANCHOR: We begin tonight in Texas with an apparent break in the disappearance of Patrick Dennehy. Police have found the body they presume to be that of the missing Baylor University basketball player. CNN's Mike Brooks is live in Waco with the very latest -- Mike? MIKE BROOKS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good evening, Sophia. It's been a busy day for law enforcement here in Waco after the gruesome discovery last evening just four miles from the Baylor University campus. (BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) BROOKS (voice-over): While searching for the body of Patrick Dennehy in a remote area east of Waco, sheriff department investigators made a grisly discovery. UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This morning at first light, we began a thorough collection of all evidence and examination of the area where the badly decomposed body was found. BROOKS: The body has been taken to the Dallas Southwest Forensic Lab for identification and an autopsy. Dennehy was expected to be a standout for Baylor University's basketball team next season. LARRY LYNCH, SHERIFF, MCLENNAN COUNTY, TEXAS: I can tell you that Coach Bliss feels a deep sense of sorrow and despair that something so unreasonable may have happened. BROOKS: Meanwhile, Dennehy's former teammate and friend, Carlton Dotson, sits in a jail cell in Kent County, Maryland, accused of his murder. His next scheduled court appearance is August 19 in Kent County. Dotson is fighting extradition back to Texas. The sheriff's department notified Dennehy's parents early Saturday morning that a body had been found. They'd been in Waco most of the week, meeting with police and packing up Patrick's belongings to take with them back to Nevada. They left Friday. (END VIDEOTAPE) BROOKS: Depending on the condition of what law enforcement describes as a badly decomposed body, it could be days before an identification is made -- Sophia? CHOI: Mike, thanks so much for staying on top of this case for us. Mike Brooks in Waco, Texas, thanks.
