DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: And we begin this morning with a deadly explosion in Indonesia, the target, an American luxury hotel in Jakarta.
CNN's Atika Shubert is live on the phone right now with the latest on today's car bombing incident.

Hello.

ATIKA SHUBERT, CNN CORRESPONDENT: And I'm in front of the lobby of the Hotel Marriott, where the explosion occurred. Forensics police are still combing through the wreckage, looking for any clue as to who has carried out this terrorist attack. The attack happened at around 12:30 this afternoon, right in the middle of a very busy lunchtime. Apparently, many guests were in the first floor restaurant in the lobby when a car pulled up into the lobby. But instead, it detonated, causing a massive explosion that partially destroyed the lobby and the first floor restaurant, killed at least 10 people, one of them a Dutch national, and injured more than 100.

KAGAN: Atika, I understand one of the things this hotel is known for is its tight security.

SHUBERT: Yes, in fact, this hotel was particularly popular with embassy and international travelers, and it hosted a number of events by the American embassy. In fact, the July 4th celebrations were held here. Now because of all of the international, I guess, people that were coming to this hotel, it had very high security. Metal detectors at every entrance. Cars were checked before they came in. But unfortunately, the lobby was a very vulnerable area. It was an area in which cars could come in and drop off passengers, and for somebody lining a car with explosives and detonating it in the lobby made it very vulnerable.

Now as a result, police are stepping up security across the city. As you can imagine, people here are very frightened that something like this could happen again.

KAGAN: Absolutely. Thank you so much. Atika Shubert, giving us the latest on Jakarta.
