CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: It's happened yet again in Iraq, another American soldier killed. Let's take you live there now.
Harris Whitbeck in Baghdad -- what's the latest from there, Harris?

HARRIS WHITBECK, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Carol.

One soldier from the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division was killed and two more were wounded when an improvised explosive device went off at their position in the town of Ba'qubah, which is just north of Baghdad. Meanwhile, the 4th I.D. has been very busy this weekend. They have just staged a new operation. They're dubbing it Operation Ivy Lightning and the idea, as you know, is the 4th I.D. has been working around the Tikrit area. But what they're doing now is that they're branching out into more isolated areas in that part of Iraq and they are looking to round up suspected loyalists and those who continue to launch attacks against U.S. forces.

The difference in this operation and others that have been launched is, again, that this is being launched in areas outside of the main urban centers. They're also using very heavy armor, Apache attack helicopters and heavy armored units to go into these towns, isolate those suspected loyalists and to try to capture them.

They're launching what they're terming surgical strikes in these remote towns and, again, this work has been carried out for several weeks now. But the U.S. 4th I.D. feels that it's been able to rout some of the Saddam loyalists out from the major urban centers and they're now being dispersed around some of the more rural areas, so they're going after them there -- Carol.

COSTELLO: All right, we'll get back to you in a bit.
