CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: For the latest on those two U.S. casualties in Iraq now, we take you live to CNN's Rym Brahimi in Baghdad -- this just happened, what, an hour or two ago?
What happened -- Rym?

RYM BRAHIMI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Carol, it happened actually a little more than that, about four or five hours ago. It was 7:00 a.m. local time here. Basically one soldier was killed, another one was wounded. Their armored personnel carrier apparently struck an improvised explosive device.

Now, this happened, these two soldiers were from the 4th Infantry Division. That's the division that's operating north of the Iraqi capital. And it happened when their convoy was actually heading toward a training area, in an area known as Aldur (ph), which is southeast of Tikrit, the hometown of the former Iraqi president.

Now, this, Carol, comes just after a day when there were massive raids conducted in Tikrit involving some 200 U.S. soldiers, raids that lasted three hours and went into 20 homes. In those raids, two high level ex-regime officials were captured and 12 other people believed to have belonged to the Baathist regime also were taken into custody. And it also happens, Carol, after one U.S. soldier was killed west of the Iraqi capital in Ramadi.

So basically you've got this Sunni Triangle where daily there are raised being conducted. In the past 24 hours some 32 raids by U.S. troops. And daily U.S. troops are also attacked by remnants of the former Baath Party or other people -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Rym Brahimi, we'll let you get away to get more information for us.

We thank you very much, live from Baghdad this morning.
