CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: What's traffic in the air going to be like today? Travelocity's air traffic expert, Rally Caparas, is on the phone with us right now.
Rally, tell us.

RALLY CAPARAS, AIR TRAFFIC SPECIALIST: Well, Carol, I'll tell you, it was a long, long wait for many people last night. As a matter of fact, there were hundreds of cancellations, especially up there around New York, Detroit and Cleveland at those locations.

Today is obviously going to be a catch-up day for the airlines. Expect very lengthy delays. You're advised to check your flight status online with your airline before you head out to the airport.

Keep in mind that the airlines are permitting those passengers affected by the power outage to change their reservations once without penalty, and that's only once, folks, so don't expect to be able to change it several times and not have to pay for that. But you can expect extra long phone waits if you're calling in. So, you're advised to go online first and check the status.

The weather throughout the country today is going to be pretty decent. However, these delays will affect flights originating from everywhere across the United States. Getting flight crews to their intended destinations yesterday, getting airplanes that needed to be at certain locations to start today is still going to be a problem. So, there will be lengthy delays nationwide.

Now, here's how delays are going to happen if you're fortunate enough to get on an airplane today. At New York City, Detroit and Cleveland, obviously a catch-up day, so keep it in mind. It's going to be a long, long wait. Be patient, as you were yesterday.

Dulles and Charlotte, 45-minute arrival delays, early low clouds and fog. It will clear later on this morning for on-time conditions later.

Orlando, Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports are delay-free right now, but that will change, as seasonal thunderstorm activity kicks up. And that means 30 to 45-minute arrival and departure delays in the evening.

Chicago O'Hare, lots of fog on the ground, low clouds, poor visibility. It will clear later on this morning, but expect 45-minute arrival delays to start the day. Phoenix Sky Harbor, you'll see 45-minute arrival and departure delays during the later p.m. hours, as thunderstorms fire up in the southwest.

And in San Francisco, the marine layer fog will slow you down until about Noon Pacific Time. Expect 30 to 45-minute arrival delays until around noon.

The rest of the country, pretty good weather for catch up. Happy travels, folks. We'll talk to you Monday.

COSTELLO: Well, at least it's Friday, huh? Rally Caparas live on the phone with us. Thanks very much.
