LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Let's get a sense of how the community up there is bearing up and what the mood there might be this morning.
Let's talk now with the mayor of Charleston, West Virginia, Danny Jones. It also turns out that Mayor Jones is a former county sheriff there, as well as director of emergency services.

And, Mr. Mayor, I've got to think your folks have got to be getting a bit on edge with this news coming in about the last shooting.

MYR. DANNY JONES, CHARLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA: Well, we have a cohesive effort that's underway by all parts of law enforcement. As a matter of fact, in the building behind me, an agent from the FBI, an agent from the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the -- my police chief, police chief of Charleston, just walked in there to have a meeting to continue the exercise of involving ourselves of strategy to apprehend whoever's doing this.

HARRIS: In terms of strategy, what are you telling the residents there in the area? What are you telling them to do to protect themselves?

JONES: Well, what we are -- people are obviously aware at night to be very careful, especially in the area of convenience stores. That seems to be where all the problems have happened. And so people usually don't go alone to these particular places.

But I believe that this person will slip up, and maybe they'll talk to somebody, or I think it will be solved by a lot of police work with the law enforcement professionals that are involved.

HARRIS: Well, let's speak with you being a former law enforcement official, let me ask you about your instincts on this case. Does your gut tell you that this actually someone who is trying to copy all of the shootings that happened around the D.C. area?

JONES: I think that we'll find that out if the other shoe drops. That's kind what have we're waiting on now. Will there be another shooting? If there's not, of course, it's -- we're just going to continue our efforts to try to apprehend the person who did it. But if there's another shooting, like the one we've had, then perhaps this could be a situation where there's a sniper on the loose. I think it's just too early to tell.

HARRIS: We sure do wish you and all the other law enforcement folks who are working on this case a lot of luck in nailing this person, and soon.

Mayor Danny Jones.

JONES: Thank you, Leon.

HARRIS: Good luck, and take care.
