CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Investigators in West Virginia are asking questions of a lot of people -- 100 to be exact. The sniper task force is busy trying to solve three shooting cases over the past week, but it may be up to you to help find the suspected gunman.
To Charleston, West Virginia, now and CNN's Jeanne Meserve.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

JEANNE MESERVE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Sheriff Dave Tucker says teams of investigators are checking out about 100 possible suspects, and he is expressing optimism that this case will be solved soon.

The sniper task force here has also put out a circular with pictures of the kind of vehicle they're looking for -- a truck with an expanded cab, possibly a Ford F-150 in black, dark blue, dark green or maroon. Also on that circular, a description of a white, heavyset man. The man and the truck were seen at one of the shootings.

There have been three shootings, all at night, all at convenience stores, all involving a single shot to the head or neck, all involving similar kinds of bullets. But authorities here are not yet saying definitively that they are dealing with a sniper situation.

One of the things investigators have been doing is looking at the histories of the individuals of the victims, trying to figure out if there are any common threads, and they have found one. All three, according to one law enforcement source, went to the same high school, but they went at different times, so investigators aren't sure yet if they're dealing with a significant clue or just a coincidence.

Jeanne Meserve, CNN, Charleston, West Virginia.
