CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: A little business buzz for you right now. Dell is stepping up the competition in the computer world.
Joya Dass live at the Nasdaq market site in New York with details on Dell's latest move.

Good morning -- Joya.

JOYA DASS, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Good morning to you, Carol.

Well, if you are looking for things to put in your back-to-school bag, maybe a computer or something you are considering, just in time, Dell is actually cutting its prices on its printers, its computers and its monitors.

Now the timing here is very interesting, because if you remember, yesterday we were talking about Hewlett-Packard, one of its biggest rivals, and the company had actually just reported a disappointing quarter. So, and part of the reason why Hewlett-Packard was saying that their quarter was disappointing is because they had to really aggressively cut their prices in order to even compete with Dell.

Well, Dell is saying that this is serendipitous. Their price cuts are not aimed at all at Hewlett-Packard. But, boy, if we're talking about the back-to-school season, analysts are saying that they don't think that Hewlett-Packard is going to be able to react fast enough to make up for some of these price cuts that are already in place at Dell. So I guess it's good for you if you are looking for a computer.

COSTELLO: Yes, always good for the consumers, that's true.

Thank you very much, Joya Dass. We'll catch you in the next half hour of DAYBREAK.
