CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: A memorial will be held on the Baylor University campus tonight for Patrick Dennehy. The body of the basketball player was found last month in a field outside of Waco, Texas. The service was planned for the first week of school because few students were on campus this summer. Dennehy's funeral was held earlier this month. And that memorial comes a day after the basketball player's former teammate was indicted for murder in his death. A Texas grand jury's decision could clear the way for Carlton Dotson's extradition.
CNN's Ed Lavandera has more for you.

ED LAVANDERA, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Carlton Dotson was arrested on July 21. Since that time, he's been sitting in a Maryland jail fighting extradition back to Texas. Waco prosecutors are hopeful that a grand jury's murder indictment will speed up Dotson's return to face the murder charge against him. It's not clear, though, how much longer the extradition process will take.

JOHN SEGREST, MCLENNAN COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY: I would not anticipate any problems, but it's, saying it's a done deal would be an incorrect statement.

LAVANDERA: The indictment says Dotson shot and killed Baylor basketball teammate Patrick Dennehy on June 12. Dennehy's body was found six weeks later. An autopsy report says Dennehy was shot twice in the head.

Dotson's indictment is the latest development in a story that has weighed heavily on the minds of Baylor's students and faculty this summer. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday on campus and to help lift people's spirits, superstar comedian Bill Cosby has offered to speak at a university rally on September 4. Cosby announced his plans by phone.

BILL COSBY, COMEDIAN: I'm not saying that they're down, down, down, but they just have to recognize that they are loved and they have a job to do and this is going to be a rally.

LAVANDERA: Cosby will speak at the 50,000 seat football stadium in Waco and everyone is being invited to attend.

Ed Lavandera, CNN, Dallas.
