CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Another coalition death in Iraq; this time, it's a British soldier. Officials say crowds surrounded a convoy and fired at British troops. It came on the heels of two deadly attacks against American soldiers -- one was killed in Baghdad, the other in Fallujah. The military says a third died of a non- hostile gunshot wound.
President Bush had been planning to use Iraq's oil revenues to pay for reconstruction, but sabotage and other issues have slowed the flow. Americans will have to foot a bigger portion of the reconstruction bill.

And the Bush administration is also considering have a U.N.- sponsored multinational force in Iraq, as long as it is under the command of an American.

OK, more on those angry mobs and coalition death. Live to Baghdad now and CNN's Rym Brahimi.

Hello -- Rym.

RYM BRAHIMI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Carol.

Indeed, a British soldier was killed, as you mentioned; another one seriously wounded. This happened when they ended up being trapped between two mobs. They were coming back in their convoy from an arrest operation and going back to their base in Amadar (ph), which is north of the southern city of Basra. And they faced a roadblock, and that roadblock basically diverted them into a village, where they were met by a mob of people.

And then, as they tried to move around that mob, they were caught in front by another crowd of people. So, to get out of the situation, they jumped out of their convoy and started shooting too. They fired two warning shots in the air. That was met by an angry response. Some people from the crowd shot at them with small-arms fire and also with rocket-propelled grenades, killing one British soldier, again, and wounding another seriously in the hand, but he is now in stable condition.

And that, Carol, brings to 11 the number of British soldiers that have been killed since May the 1st, when George Bush declared the end of major combat operations -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Rym Brahimi bringing us up-to-date live from Baghdad this morning.
