CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Back here in the states, Chicago is the site of the nation's largest workplace shooting. A man who had been fired earlier this year returned and opened fire, killing six employees before being shot dead by police.
CNN's Jeff Flock takes us to the scene of the crime.

JEFF FLOCK, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Chicago police are now allowing our cameras up a lot closer than they had initially, so that we can get a good sense on the ground here for where this took place. Perhaps you see it here. This is the auto parts salvage and wholesale business is they way they described it to us. Obviously a lot of traffic. This is a very busy street, Pershing (ph) Road and 39th Street essentially, in Chicago in the Bridgeport neighborhood.

You see perhaps the gaggle of police officers over there between the passing traffic. This has been a very complicated crime scene, we are told by Chicago police. In fact, one Chicago police spokesman telling me it was something of a maze in there. The building contains auto parts, bins of auto parts. He said it's something of a maze inside.

Again, confirming now in terms of numbers. We have a total of seven people shot and killed as a result of this, including the gunman. Three people made it to local hospitals and were pronounced dead there. The rest pronounced dead here on the scene.

And we are told, as we said, a very complicated crime scene, and this will take a while to process. This will be shut down here for quite some time.

I'm Jeff Flock, CNN, reporting from the Bridgeport neighborhood in Chicago.
