CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Another American soldier has been killed in Iraq, four others injured, and we understand there has been another attack.
So, let's go live to Baghdad to find out more. Rym Brahimi is there.

What can you tell us -- Rym?

RYM BRAHIMI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Carol, we do now have confirmation of an attack that happened north of Baghdad against a U.S. convoy. In that attack, one U.S. soldier from the 4th I.D. was killed and three others were wounded. They fell under small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenade as well. The injured are being looked after in a hospital right now.

But we also just found out that there was another attack in the west of the country towards -- about 100 kilometers or 70 kilometers west of the Iraqi capital in Fallujah, which is a hot bed for the insurgents who have been fighting U.S. soldiers for the past few months. A couple of U.S. soldiers were wounded when their Humvee was attacked by, again, small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades. That was near a mosque in Fallujah.

Now, security, as you know, remains the No. 1 problem for the U.S. soldiers here, and it's been the case for the past few months. There have been a dozen attacks daily against U.S. and coalition soldiers here in Iraq.

And in order to maybe work around that, U.S. and coalition forces have been conducting raids on a regular basis, the latest raid in the area of Baquba, about a 45-minute drive northeast of Baghdad, a raid that lasted quite a few hours. And apparently, some arrests were made. Raids that, say U.S. military officials, are helpful because they say that they're able to arrest a lot of people, confiscate weapons, and therefore also reduce not only the number of insurgents, but maybe the number of criminals as well.

As you know, Baghdad has been plagued for the past few months by a lot of criminal attacks, gang attacks, kidnappings, rapes, robbery, armed robbery -- you name it -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Rym Brahimi reporting live from Baghdad this morning.
