CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Time for Dollars and Deals with the man who knows everything when it comes to saving you money, consumer guru Clark Howard. And this morning, Clark has a hot tip that will help you save on your next long distance bill.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

CLARK HOWARD, CONSUMER ADVOCATE: This morning's question is from Jeff in Wichita, Kansas. Jeff, you say your long distance carrier raised your rates again and you're tempted to switch companies or are even starting to look at one of those 10-10 services. You want to know where will you save the most money?

Well, I want to tell you about some fantastic deals on long distance service. And the big rule, you've got to move away from the big three, because they have fee after fee after fee and they're actually raising their price per minute these days. So if you want the best deal, you want to look at some little known companies that require a little bit of work from you.

One of them is onesuite.com and another is bigzoo.com. They're $0.025 and $0.029 a minute for their service. No monthly fees, nothing like that. But you do work for your savings because you're going to have to dial a zillion digits -- a local access number, your secret code and then the area code and number you're trying to call. But it really is cheap.

Another alternative, at the warehouse clubs, Sam's Club, Costco Wholesale and B.J.'s Wholesale, you can buy prepaid phone minutes at $0.029 a minute. Isn't that neat? If you want traditional long distance service from your home, though, there's a company called GTC Telecom that's a nickel a minute with no fees at all as long as you bill your long distance charges to a major credit card. And you get an online statement of your long distance calls. Now, once again, that is GTC Telecom. And it's a real deal.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COSTELLO: Clark will be back next Friday with more Dollars and Deals.
