ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: Well, MTV's 20th anniversary Music Awards were held last night. And just like every year, the big winner was -- well, really, who cares. As CNN's Jeanne Moos reports, this year the big winner every guy or girl who's ever thought to themselves, "What if..?"
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

JEANNE MOOS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): The kiss that started on Madonna's and Britney's lips ended up on everyone's.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I have just one thing to say about it.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: What is it?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Prrrrr (ph).

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: If only the stock market today were as hot as that kiss.

DENNIS MILLER, FOX NEWS COMMENTATOR: I am repulsed but strangely aroused.

JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: Well, I've seen enough, so how about we take that off -- God.

MOOS: The last time a kiss caused such a stir was when Al Gore planted one on Tipper.

Sure, there have been other same-sex kisses, from "All My Children" to "Ellen," but none with this star power.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Obnoxious.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It was nasty.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It was sexy.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I think it was sick.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think they look very good together.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Off the hook. I loved it.

MOOS: For some, the kiss may still refer to a sculpture by Rodan. (on camera): What did you think of the kiss?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What kiss?

MOOS: You know, the kiss?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (UNINTELLIGIBLE), do you know anything about a kiss? See. About what? See people in the real world work for a living. They don't watch that stuff.

MOOS (voice-over): Wrong demographic.

(on camera): Did you see the big kiss?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes. Madonna back to her bisexual ways.

MOOS (voice-over): Everyone seemed to think Britney's boyfriend (sic), Justin Timberlake, looked unhappy. But no.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Justin, you want to chime in on that kiss. Did you see the kiss?

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, SINGER: Do I want to chime in on that kiss?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes. You guys -- did you guys see the kiss?

TIMBERLAKE: I would have rather chimed in on that kiss on stage.

MOOS: Some say Madonna was pushing button the issue of gay marriage.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Don't you find it ironic women are making out on the stage almost the same day that they're pulling the Ten Commandments out of the court down south?

(SINGING)

MOOS: Unless it involves three female superstars, a kiss that won't soon be gone with the wind. At least Madonna. But then, Madonna might have liked that.

Jeanne Moos, CNN, New York.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

COOPER: Sometimes a kiss is just a kiss.
