FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: More and more American forces in Iraq are being attacked nearly every day. In the latest incident, four U.S. soldiers were seriously wounded when their convoy was hit by an explosion.
Jason Bellini is live on the videophone from Tikrit where the incident happened -- Jason.

JASON BELLINI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Fredricka, that incident took place just south of Tikrit, and we just learned about it today. This happened yesterday afternoon. And, as you know, these things have been a pretty regular occurrence around here.

The 4th I.D., who were embedded near Tikrit, they've been involved in trying to stop these attacks. These attacks, many of them being caused by improvised explosive devices -- IEDs as they're called. That's what happened with the three-vehicle convoy yesterday afternoon that was attacked, as you said, injuring four U.S. soldiers.

Now, we've been going on a number of raids with the 4th I.D. They're going after very targeted individuals. They're not doing these blanket raids that they had been doing in the earlier days of their presence here in Iraq.

Now they know the names of the people they're going after. Oftentimes they're taking along with them an informant, someone who can identify the individual once they've been apprehended and taken out of the building, out of whatever -- you know, whether it's an apartment or a house or some other type of building. They take them out, they're identified, and then they are taken away. We've been on a number of these raids, and so far they've been without incident.

Fredricka, I can tell you that we went on one yesterday, where it was a particular -- where it was really personal for the soldiers involved, because the person they captured they believe is the one who planted a landmine that killed one of their soldiers -- Fredricka.

WHITFIELD: All right, still at the early stages of that investigation, though. Jason Bellini, thank you very much.
