KIM CAPOZZO, CNN AFFILIATE KVBC REPORTER: Thirty buildings, 726 units, literally reduced to ash here in Las Vegas -- a light show lighting up the sky rivaling anything that you can see on the Strip.

Just about every firefighter in the Las Vegas valley has responded to this one, working in conjunction with Metro officers. Two major roads in the Las Vegas area -- Russell Road and Zaboulder Highway (ph) -- have been closed. Evacuations for surrounding neighborhoods. The Red Cross is on the scene helping about 60 people who will not be allowed back into their homes for quite some time.

Crews will be out here around the clock fighting this fire -- really an inferno. What a blaze they have on their hands.

Southwest Gas is out trying to turn off the lines, because that is also fueling the fire.

Construction workers who knocked off that were literally there three hours before the fire started have come back to the scene, worried about a friend who actually lived on the job site. They say he lived in a trailer that has about 5 ms of diesel fuel stored right in front of it. They have not heard from him. 0 druThey have not found him at one of the evacuation sites, which was the Central Christian Church. Very concerned.

They're talking with firefighters. However, they are still battling the blaze and will be for hours, and they're just going to have to wait and see if their friend is OK.

Reporting for CNN, I'm Kim Capozzo in Las Vegas.
