Low-Fat Food Fight: Burger King Retaliates Against McDonald's

CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Time again for some business buzz. Burger King is starting a food fight with McDonald's, only it's with low fat food.
So let's get the skinny on this from Carrie Lee live at the Nasdaq site in New York.
Carrie, tell us.
CARRIE LEE, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: OK, Carol.
Burger King firing back at McDonald's with a new fire grilled chicken baguette line of sandwiches. Three different sandwiches here with a pretty low calorie and fat content for fast food. They have about 350 calories each and just 5 grams of fat.
Now these sandwiches all differ a little bit, one of them has grilled vegetables. Another one has a savory mustard sauce. That's what they are calling it anyway. The other one has sort of a barbecue theme to it. And these can come in line with a group. You can buy them with a salad on the side or a bottle of water.
Clearly here a retaliation against McDonald's which has recently rolled out a salad line itself as well as healthier Happy Meals for children. And then McDonald's is also testing out now a new healthier Happy Meal-style combo for adults as well. So the fast food industry really kind of turning away from the high fat foods it's really best known for.
COSTELLO: So there's going to be a healthy Happy Meal for adults?
LEE: That's basically what it is. And you know McDonald's has recently enlisted Oprah Winfrey's personal training and their Happy Meal comes with a pedometer. You clip it on and it tells you how far you are walking and maybe how many calories you are burning. So a very health conscious thing.
COSTELLO: Tells how far you are walking from your car to the restaurant, back to the car?
LEE: Well that's the idea to get people walking instead of driving. We'll see if it's effective. They are test marketing that in Indiana. Hasn't rolled out across the country yet.
