CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Some of today's top musicians are at the Monterey Jazz Festival this weekend. More than 500 artists are going to perform on seven different stages. CNN's Maria Hinojosa has the dream assignment of covering it all and well deserved Maria.
HINOJOSA: You know, Carol, when you get this kind of assignment you just love it and thank all the gods that you got this chance to be here. It's been a wonderful couple of days, 45,000 people throughout the entire weekend but what can I tell you?

I'm joined now by the ever fabulous wonderful Neville brothers who are really so wonderful, you guys, that look at the crowds that are forming just to see you here. They're all waving at you, all wanting to take your pictures. You have not been here now for more than 25 years, Aaron, what's it like to be back on this stage?

AARON NEVILLE, NEVILLE BROTHERS: Oh, it's exciting. We can't wait. You know we're looking forward to it definitely.

HINOJOSA: What does the Monterey Jazz Festival mean for a group like the Neville Brothers to be here?

A. NEVILLE: Well, it's a day to - I mean look at all the people out here. It's like a wonderful opportunity to play your music and be heard at a famous jazz festival.

HINOJOSA: Charles, you tell me what's going on for you? You have really fond memories of when you came here more than 25 years ago. What's going on? You look so happy. What's going on for you?

CHARLES NEVILLE, NEVILLE BROTHERS: Not only do I have the fond memories, I actually have a recording of the radio broadcast from that performance.

HINOJOSA: What does it mean for you to be here?

C. NEVILLE: Well, you know, like this is one of the big legitimate jazz festivals of the world and for us to be here it's like an endorsement of our music by the music community.

HINOJOSA: It does say something, in fact, Cyril, about the fact that this is a festival that is going to look at New Orleans, at Zydeco. It's a recognition that jazz can encompass many different styles of music.

CYRIL NEVILLE, NEVILLE BROTHERS: Well, exactly. You know as far as New Orleans is concerned, New Orleans is not only the home of jazz but blues, rhythm and blues, and I think rock and roll is actually the child of rhythm and blues, so all of it, you know, as Ernie Cato (ph) used to say he thought that all music came from New Orleans.

HINOJOSA: Now, what's wonderful is that you all are brothers and one son, which we're going to get to in a second, but also you have now got a CD that's coming up next year. You must be so excited. Who's the most excited?

A. NEVILLE: I have a CD that came out a couple of weeks ago.

HINOJOSA: You do have a CD which is your own CD, one of jazz standards.

A. NEVILLE: Yes.

HINOJOSA: And the brothers have one that's coming up.

A. NEVILLE: Yes, the brothers, we're working on it as we speak. Every time we go home we try to add a little gumbo to it, you know, some ingredients. Yes, it's going to be great.

HINOJOSA: Now, when does it come out, Charles?

C. NEVILLE: Well, we don't know yet as we haven't really finished it yet. So, it comes out sometime after we finish it.

HINOJOSA: You guys are something else because you just performed last night in San Diego. You came up by bus, drove all night. You're performing in Fresno, busy, busy. How does that go for you back there Ivan as the son of Aaron Neville? Are you enjoying this?

IVAN NEVILLE, NEVILLE BROTHERS: Yes, it's pretty fun.

HINOJOSA: And as the second generation of the Neville Brothers?

I. NEVILLE: Yes.

HINOJOSA: As the second generation what's that like?

I. NEVILLE: It's an honor, I mean to be playing music on stage with your family, there's nothing like it.

HINOJOSA: You know what we're going to do, we know that there's a fabulous performance going on right now on stage so let's go dip in to Buckwheat Zydeco for one quick second on the main stage.
