CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: OK, now we're going to talk about the Emmys because there was a whole lot of kissing going on at the Emmys. And there was also some of television's biggest stars receiving the industry's top honors at the 55th annual primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.
Our Jodi Ross takes us there.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

JODI ROSS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Emmy night was filled with stunning fashion, full of kisses and big wins. Everybody certainly loved "Raymond." The show won a total of five awards, including best comedy series. Brad Garrett picked up his second Emmy for best supporting actor and best supporting actress Doris Roberts walked away with her third.

DORIS ROBERTS, BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: I'm a triple crown winner.

ROSS: "The West Wing" was elected for a second term, winning the top trophy for best dramatic series.

DEBRA MESSING, BEST ACTRESS COMEDY: Oh, my god!

ROSS: A stunned Debra Messing accepted the best actress honor in a comedy series for "Will and Grace."

MESSING: The accolades, you know, this is, this is other worldly and I've never allowed myself the ability to dream.

ROSS: Who says crime doesn't pay?

JAMES GANDOLFINI, BEST ACTOR DRAMA: To my son, Michael, I promised I would do this. Pffflt.

ROSS: "The Sopranos" picked up four awards, including best actor for James Gandolfini and best actress for Edie Falco, statue number three for both.

EDIE FALCO, BEST ACTRESS DRAMA: This is a very surreal experience. You really can't imagine it until you go through it how truly bizarre it is.

ROSS: Fellow TV tough guy Joe Pantoliano took home a trophy for best appointing actor in a drama. Back stage, he showed a much softer side of himself. JOE PANTOLIANO, BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR DRAMA: All my friends had to hear me say, as I was standing on a corner in front of the pizzeria, that I wanted to be an actor. And that, you know, now in the, you know, and I've been able to make a living and live the dream that that kid had on that corner and now, you know, I get a nice trophy. It's not a bad day.

ROSS: Tony Shaloub's turn as the neurotic detective Adrian Monk earned him the best actor in a comedy.

TONY SHALOUB, BEST ACTOR COMEDY: I'm kind of like the new kid on the block and then with six people in the category felt like a little bit of a party crasher.

ROSS: And in a touching tribute to the late John Ritter, the television community said a final farewell to an actor who filled our living rooms with so much laughter for so many years.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think John got by with one simple rule, and that was to do your best and really enjoy the journey.

ROSS: Jodi Ross for CNN, Los Angeles.
